Wisconsin Supreme Court Statistics, 1916-17

These tables are derived from information contained in 253 Wisconsin Supreme Court decisions that were turned up in a Nexis Uni search for decisions filed between September 1, 1916, and August 31, 1917.  The total of 253 decisions does not include various orders pertaining to petitions, motions, and disciplinary matters involving lawyers and judges.

Cases are omitted if they were decided during the previous term but appeared in the search results because motions for reconsideration were not decided until 1916-17.  Such cases will be included in the tables for 1915-16.

When two or more cases were, in effect, consolidated—one was simply said to be ruled by the decision in the other—the cases are counted as only one.  For instance: (1) State ex rel. Pfister v. Widule (166 Wis. 48) and State ex rel. Nunnemacher v. Widule (166 Wis. 55); (2) State v. Lewis (164 Wis. 363) and State v. Little (164 Wis. 367); (3) Peters v. Chicago, & N. W. R. Co. (165 Wis. 529), Turkowski v. Chicago, & N. W. R. Co. (165 Wis. 536), and Nuss v. Chicago & N. W. R. Co. (165 Wis. 535); (4) Trebowoski v. Ringle (165 Wis. 637) and Sobush v. Ringle (165 Wis. 641); (5) State ex rel. Owen v. Reisen (164 Wis. 123) and State ex rel. Owen v. O’Neill (164 Wis. 127); (6) Stocker v. Dubuque Fire & Marine Ins. Co. (164 Wis. 614) and Stocker v. Netherlands Fire & Life Ins. Co. (164 Wis. 619).

The tables are available as a complete set and by individual topic in the subsets listed below.
